Seasons Greetings
Father Christmas has already enjoyed a few of our new releases and we found him taking a nap under the stallions rampant the other morning. Reg (who wasn't very amused) wishes you and your family a very happy festive season and a wonderful New Year.
The cellar door team is all geared up for the busiest time of their year and has a heap of great gift ideas including dressing up the Yearlings in a festive two pack, the delicious new release 2010 Rymill Coonawarra Sparkling White and 2010 The Bee's Knees - yes it is back! Call Cellar Door on 08 8736 5001 if you would like help with your Christmas present list; Anna and the team will be more than happy to help.

When is a weed not a weed?

When it's a clover trial! This year Micko and his vineyard team have happily let the clover grow. They have even encouraged it! And whilst this means that the vineyards have appeared a little messy, it is great news for the vines.
When the clover is growing it accumulates nitrogen on its roots, so when it dies off in the summer, the nitrogen becomes available to the grapevines. The clover therefore promotes a healthy soil structure and profile and that means healthy vineyards.
The benefit of the nitrogen will even be seen at vintage time because grapes with balanced levels of nitrogen help yeasts to tick nicely through fermentation. So the next time you see a vineyard that looks like it is covered in weeds, it's not necessarily a bad thing!

Coming soon to the worldwide web...
We are very happy to give our Rymill Coonawarra friends a sneak peek at our new website. Fi and our team are busy doing the finishing touches and it will be launched early in December.
The new site will feature visual navigation via 360 degree images of the winery as well as online sales, making it much easier for you to purchase your favourite Rymill wines.

We're excited - 2010 Yearling Shiraz receives 92 points from James Halliday
"Follows in the hoof prints of its predecessors. This wine stretches the lead a little further, with abundant blackberry and plum fruit, fine ripe tannins and subtle oak providing textural support. It joins Majella and Balnaves' second labels in its value for money."
- James Halliday, 1001 Top Wines under $20
We were so pleased to see the new release 2010 Yearling Shiraz feature in James Halliday's new book. And the Yearling Sauvignon Blanc highlighted in our last newsletter also made the list - it received 90 points. Click here to purchase the wines and try them yourself.

Across the Antarctic Circle
|
In 1935 the Research Yacht Penola carried the British Graham Land Expedition, under the command of John Riddoch Rymill, across the Antarctic Circle. During this three-year expedition the Antarctic Peninsula was discovered and nearly 2,000km of its coastline were surveyed.
In February 2013 the Rymill family (and hopefully some other expedition descendents) will join a commemorative BGLE trip in a modern-day ice-breaker, which aims to penetrate farther south along this coastline than any other similar cruise.
As soon as details are available, they will be published in the Rymill Newsletter. In the meantime, intrepid readers are invited to express their interest to the winery for further information.

The Buzz - featuring Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations
October in Coonawarra is all about the Cabernet Celebrations. Guests from all over the country visit to enjoy a weekend of wine flavoured festivities. The 14th Barrel Series Auction and Dinner were held at Katnook Estate where the Wynns Coonawarra Estate barrel gained the highest price of $24,118. Our Imperial filled with the gold medal winning 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon was a part of the silent auction and raised an amazing $640. Thank you to some great fans from Melbourne for their very enthusiastic support.
On the Sunday we hosted the second Bee's Knees brunch and family fete in front of the winery. It was a wonderful day with the highlight being the dunking of Rymill team members, all in the name of charity! The funds raised were donated to the Naracoorte Hospital. Don't forget to mark the date of next year's event in your calendar now, the third weekend in October; come join us for a fantastic celebration of all things Cabernet!

A team from the Penola Hunt Club, which included cellar door staff member Naomi Barnes (far right), recently competed in the Section Fours at the Royal Adelaide Show placing fourth.
The Rymill family all grew up attending the Penola Pony Club and have many fond memories from horseback adventures, so Rymill Coonawarra was very proud to sponsor the team.
