2011 Harvest Report
Vintage started on the 1 March and finished on the 14 April. The trying season that Mother Nature provided kept the vineyard crew extra busy. The temperature during vintage was slightly warmer than average, both the minimum and the maximum, during the growing season.
The rainfall in February, March, April and May was above average and something that hasn't been seen for quite some time, coming off a ten year drought. This heavy rain during the ripening period resulted in very high disease pressure; with nine primary mildew events and latten botrytis stress. Fortunately it was held at bay and the hard work did pay off, all of the fruit picked and processed was in good condition.
The picking started later than usual with the season producing some amazing flavours in the whites; this year's Sauvignon Blanc best described as fresh and crisp, with splashes of lime. The Shiraz didn't really enjoy the wetter conditions. However, the Cabernet Sauvignon is made to resist inclement weather and good fruit was picked. The Cabernet Sauvignon wines produced will continue to look elegant in years to come.
In summary "It was a tough gig for all involved but the proof is in the bottle".
