Sustainable Viticulture

Hinge BugsOne important aspect of the sustainable viticulture practised by Rymill Coonawarra is the elimination of all synthetic, chemical insecticides. Light Brown Apple Moths and Vine Moths, as shown, are controlled with naturally occurring bacterial sprays which allow beneficial predatory insects, such as Tricky Mites, Lacewing Moths, Lady Birds, Hover Flies and Dolly Wasps, to flourish.

Sustainable viticulture is generally a medium between organic and conventional viticulture, which ensures fertile soil, healthy vines and well-balanced, flavoursome grapes.

This is achieved through such environmental practices as the application of natural fertilizers and the grazing of vineyards with sheep to minimize herbicide usage. Integrated pest management ensures the balance of nature is disrupted as little as possible.

In these ways we can guarantee the stewardship of our natural and economicresources, so that the needs of the present can be met without compromising the future.
